Earthworms increase the potential for enzymatic bio-activation of biochars made from co-pyrolyzing animal manures and plastic wastes

We assessed the enzymatic activation of four different biochars produced from pyrolyzing swine manure and poultry litter, by co-pyrolyzing these livestock residues with agricultural spent mulch plastic film wastes (plastichars). Enzymatic consisted incubating in soil inoculated earthworms (Lumbricus terrestris), which acted as biological vectors to facilitate retention extracellular enzymes onto biochar surface. The activity carboxylesterase ?a pesticide-detoxifying enzyme? was measured non-bioturbed soils (reference), linings burrows created earthworms, casts (feces) particles recovered soil. Our results revealed that: 1) increased respect biochar-free (control) soils, more prominent presence earthworms. 2) maximum enzyme found amended plastichars. 3) plastichars showed higher binding capacities than that animal alone, corroborating pattern distribution 4) significantly potential for activation.
